What Caused My Problem?

The source of your problem is very important to a chiropractor as it may affect your recovery and any possible future recurrence.

There are 4 major causes of mechanical disorders in the body:

  • Poor Posture: It is important to maintain good posture at all times, sounds obvious but sadly it is regularly forgotten. Your chiropractor will perform a thorough postural exam and postural exercises and advice will be recommended, if necessary.
  • Poor Movement: Poor movement patterns either quantity (how much you can move) or quality (how well you move) can cause degeneration of soft tissue (muscles, ligaments, tendons, joint capsules) inhibiting its ability to work.
  • Chronic Repetitive Stress: Stress can take many forms and we believe it to be the MOST common reason for a problem/condition to develop. Any chronic repetitive exposure to stress has a detrimental effect on your health. Identifying and removing or reducing any chronic repetitive stressors will significantly improve your recovery and reduce the likelihood of any recurrence of your problem.
  • Trauma: Trauma is the only causative factor not under your control; it normally is the result of a fall or an accident. It can directly damage tissue, ranging from sprained joints to fractured bones or bruising to swelling.

How Will I Be Treated?

Our goal is to offer a friendly, efficient, informative, professional and effective service. You will be welcomed into our clinic by Rosaleen, our lovely receptionist.

“I actually think some patients prefer her banter to my treatment” – Ben

You will be consulted and treated in a private comfortable room with full confidentiality, allowing you to ask any questions or concerns you may have about your problem, your treatment or even any other medical conditions.

You will be involved in deciding the type of treatment you will receive.  We recognise and appreciate you are choosing to pay for treatment, we hope you we are pleased with our service and see it as good value for money.

What does Chiropractic treatment include?

At the Battlefield Chiropractic treatment we mainly use the following techniques:

  • Spinal Manipulative Therapy – A fast gentle force applied to a joint in a specific direction to improve movement and alignment, improve neurological function (we describe this as allowing your body to communicate with itself better) and stimulate muscular relaxation.
  • Joint Mobilisation – A passive (performed by the chiropractor) movement of a joint within its normal range to increase the mobility and flexibility of that joint. A gentler form or treatment compared to manipulation.
  • Massage – Muscle stimulation to release tension and improve circulation into the area applied. Muscle relaxation is included in every chiropractic treatment at our clinic however for specific sports massage we also have a qualified massage therapist (Rachel Paisley (link)) available.
  • Active Release Technique® – A different form of muscle therapy to massage that is highly regarded in the elite sport world. It is regarded as the gold standard in muscle therapy (Link to video http://www.activerelease.com/what_patients.asp – I’ve contacted the profession and they say we can use the link as long as we reference it properly). Ben Chambers is currently the only chiropractor in Scotland registered as an Active Release Technique provider.
  • Dry Needling – Uses acupuncture needles to specific areas within muscular tissue that are tight or knotted (trigger points).
  • Stretches – Lengthening muscle tissue to release tension or improve alignment. Like with many forms of treatment provided at the Battlefield Chiropractic clinic there are many types of stretching techniques we can use.
